Illustrated Journey Log
A downloadable game
This is a 32-page illustrated journal for travels in a fantasy world inspired by the tabletop role-playing game Ryuutama.
While it's designed with Ryuutama in mind, I wanted to be able to use it with any game system, so there are no game-specific prompts or mechanics.
I've seen a few campaign journals out there, but they often feature bland, spreadsheet-style pages. I wanted to make worksheets that were fun to look at and easy to fill out -- worksheets that would inspire me! As always, it is important to me to make something that is printer-friendly and free, for people like myself with limited resources. That said, I put a lot of time and love into these illustrations, so if you'd like to leave me a tip, I'd be grateful.
The download here includes:
- A very Ryuutama-inspired cover.
- The 32-page zine. (Some assembly required!)
- Mini Binder Pages: The map, town, log, notes, and table of contents pages, formatted with a slightly larger inner gutter so that they can be cut in half, hole-punched, and put comfortably in a mini binder.
- Full Binder Pages: The map, town, log, notes, and table of contents pages, formatted with a larger top gutter so that they can be printed, hole-punched, and put in a binder. (Comes with a slightly different cover for putting in at the front of the binder, as well! Hopefully these are helpful to anyone who'd be bothered by the binder rings getting in the way when they want to write.)
Assembly Instructions:
You will require: 8 sheets of printer paper, a piece of cardstock (or additional sheet of paper), a stapler.
- Print the cover or make your own. (I recommend a nice piece of cardstock, maybe in a fun color. You could also color it yourself!)
- Print the zine pages double-sided: it should take 8 sheets of paper, front and back. (Use regular printer paper for this -- something that's comfortable to write on and not too heavy.)
- Fold everything in half. The zine pages are marked with a dotted line on the outside of the fold.
- Stack the pages so that they're in the correct order, then staple them together with the cover on the outside.
For the future:
Until I have a proper instructions sheet (illustrated, and I think it'd be nice to have a lil saddle-stitching tutorial on it for anybody who wants to be fancy) and some pictures of the final product, I'm going to consider this to be in "early access."
Eventually, I think I'd like to make a bigger, more fully-featured version of this and make a proper book of it.
